The legendary Edith Head once said that you can have anything you want in life if you dress for it, and her words have been playing in my head like a catchy song ever since I heard them as a little girl.
When I was around 7, I would shop for fabrics with my Mom and grandmother and watch with wide-eyed curiosity as they created beautiful garments from what my younger self thought were nothing but yards of unimpressive cloth. They would make gorgeous skirts that flowed like the gentle wind, stunning blouses that flattered the figure, and eye-catching accessories that complemented and completed the outfits they sewed. It felt almost as if they possessed the kind of magic Cinderella’s fairy godmother did.
I grew up wearing my Mom’s and grandmother’s creations. Not only were they cost-effective, but they also gave me a unique style that was the envy of my friends. It didn’t take me long to learn the family tricks and start experimenting with fashion on my own. I vividly remember the first time I picked apart one of my favourite outfits and put it back together. Two yards of blue velvet fabric became, at first, a long jumpsuit.
After a couple of years, I had them shortened to the knees. A couple more years later, I made a dress out of it. Then, I simply changed the original buttons of the dress with something a bit more sparkly, which gave it a whole new life and myself the confidence to don it with pride. It was then that I started truly believing in the power of clothes. Now, I’m on a mission to help others believe in it too.
I’m a total style digger—always have been! I dug style while running several family boutiques in my hometown, Varna. I dug style while walking the romantic streets of Florence for five years during my studies at the University of Florence. My fascination led me to dive into a full-on style and fashion experience after receiving a ‘Color Me Beautiful’ image consultant certification. I then launched Stylish Sisters with the aim of inspiring women to look good and feel good—regardless of their age, colour, shape, size, and socioeconomic status. It was my way of paying homage to the wonderful, stylish, clever women who shaped my early years and introducing the ideas of elegance and style mixed with humour, fun, and flirtiness. I examine each client’s unique body shapes and personal tastes to create tailored wardrobes and shopping lists. I enjoy putting together outfits for my clients that turn heads as they walk into a room, whether it’s a dainty coffee shop in Sheung Wan for a casual first date or a towering skyscraper for an important business deal.
All in all, my aim is to give my clients that extra edge they never knew they needed—their unique style.
